Last week my family went camping down south on the Oregon Coast — where the Umpqua River joins the Ocean.  As my four-year old daughter was happily learning to fly a kite, I sat watching the lone surfer braving the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean.

I’ll admit that I was thinking he was insane — that water was COLD!

Shortly after, that surfer walked up to me and said hello.  To my surprise it was Brett Pruess, who spent last summer volunteering in our office as ELAW’s summer law intern!  Brett had just finished taking the Oregon Bar exam and was about to start his job with the Oregon Law Center’s Coos Bay office.

The Oregon Law Center’s mission is to “achieve justice for the low income communities of Oregon.” It is always inspiring to see where former ELAW volunteers and interns land.  We are thrilled to know Brett will continue to do important public interest legal work. We hope he and his family will visit us in Eugene soon!
